Link Popularity is the number of links pointing to your website. If many sites are linking to your site search engines think that your web site is worth showing to others in search engine results.
Why is Link Popularity so important?
Search engines algorithms have been changing over the past years. Previously search engines used to look up the metatags and present those web sites in search results. So simple … huh? As people starting to abuse the metatags search engine companies found another way to overcome it … But soon webmasters had work arounds for it too. So search engine companies keep developing and altering their strategies to present honest search results for the searchers.
One of the algorithm is ‘Link popularity’. How many sites are linked to your site? What is the quality of link? Are these links growing fast in a short period of time? Is this link relevant to the linking web site?
If search engine sees more quality links from a well indexed sites, they think that your site is something important for their searchers. So you will be pushed up in the search engine results.
How can you improve Link Popularity of your web site?
STAY AWAY from link farms.
* Directory submissions: Get listed in the internet directories like DMOZ, Yahoo. There are many online webmaster resource directories. Submit to those sites too.
* Article marketing: Write good quality articles and submit them to article directories. This is one of the best ways to get good quality links to your website.
* RSS feeds: Publish your articles on your web site and submit rss feeds to rss directories.
* Socialmedia bookmarking: Recent trend of getting backlinks is by submiting your links to these bookmarking sites or encouraging your site visitors to add the important pages of your web site to bookmarking sites.
* Link exchanges: Ask other website owners to link to your website. In return you can publish his/her link on your site.
* Text links: Purchase text links from well known directories.
* Forums: Participate in the forums where you can use a signature file with your site links.
