Wordpress plugins – Your Own Short URLs to tweet blog posts

I was looking to create short urls on my own domain instead of using third party url shortening services for my Wordpress blog posts.

Here are five wordpress plugins that would be useful to create your own short urls, in no specific preference. These short urls are used to tweet your blog posts.
Shrink, track and share any URL on the Internet from your WordPress website. You can now shorten links using your own domain name (as opposed to using tinyurl.com, bit.ly, or any other link shrinking service)! In addition to creating clean links, Pretty Link tracks each hit on your URL and provides a full, detailed report of where the hit came from, the browser, os and host. Pretty Link is a killer plugin for people who want to mask their affiliate links, track clicks from emails, their links on Twitter to come from their own domain, or generally increase the reach of their website by spreading these links on forums or comments on other blogs.
This plugin automatically creates a link element in the section of the post’s page with a rel=”shorturl” attribute. It also creates an HTTP Link header that also points to the shorter link.
The Short link maker WordPress creating a shorter URL of post, page and media permalink. The URL in the href attribute defaults to the id number of the post in question.
This plugin looks ok. There is english version is available though the author released it in Japanese language. But not sure how the support will be from the author.
Ever want your own shortcuts without mucking about with permalink structures? The Link Shortcut plugin allows you to create short (random numbers and letters, or short words) URLs under your blog’s domain that redirect (301 or 302, your choice) a user to other pages, either in your site or on another site.
la petite url is a custom URL shortener. Using your own Wordpress (2.5+) installation, la petite url allows you to create shortened, unique, permalinks to your content using a combination of lowercase, uppercase, or numeric characters, which originate from your own domain name, instead of a third-party like bit.ly. By default la petite url generates a 5-character combination of lowercase letters only, for ease of use in entering on a mobile device or handset.
la petite url supports shorturl auto discovery and rel=”shortlink”. The the_full_petite_url function will output the full URL, without any formatting, which can be used elsewhere, such as in Twitter or other microblogging plugins. the_petite_url_link function will output an HTML link using the configuration from la petite url’s options.

2I’ll check out some of the plugins you have listed. I have 20 or so sites that use Wordpress and it would be cool to be able to create short or custom links without losing the branding of the site.
