| | News Page Updater 1.15 is a simple little utility that was written to update the news page of this site. It simply allows you to add items ( automatically adding the date to the beginning of the message ) and to edit the raw html code as necessary. You can also set the time to add or subtract hours from your servers localtime if you wish to use a time that differs from that of your servers.

| | The basic idea was to have a single perl script that was capable of both displaying news from data files and also creating the files themselves. Using creative post methods and hidden input types I have done just that. When the script is called without parameters, it reads the specified news directory, retrieves a definable number of days, formats the HTML and returns the page to the browser. In the body of the news page is a link for archives. If that link is clicked, the news.cgi is called again with "archive" passed as an argument. The script reads the news directory and returns a calendar of days that news was reported. Clicking on any day will call the script again, passing it the specific day. From the news day you can click to see the archives or the current news.
